Cliff Thornton

Part of the excavation undertaken in summer 1967 looking for any remains of Stockton Castle. The dig was lead by Alan Aberg, of the Leeds University Extra-mural Dept. in Harrow Road, Middlesbrough. Time was short so he used a JCB to put in an exploratory trench, running east – west across the site. This revealed a stone drain running across the site, but I`m not sure that he found out where it was running from or to (presumably the river). The photo shows the trench and the excavated stone drain. The photo was taken looking west, the houses in the distance front onto Bridge Road.
